Deal secures Post Office future

I went to post a letter and asked for it to be guaranteed delivery, i.e not lost in the system- so signed for,, cost to me Seven quid! The postmaster said this was for a guaranteed delivery- to which I replied I replied Don't you guarantee all letters to be delivered!
second point.
Junk mail. Ilove it. I open it and put the return form back in blank and post it. Result I don't have any thing to discard and secondly it keeps my elderly and very spritely nearly octanagerian postman weighed down with mail and employed walking the streets until he can claim his pension!
If there is less post - you will get less deliveries and so he circle continues. decreasing, etc.

It is strange times we live in the main reason for selling of public companies is indexed linked pensions it takes 5 wage packets to cover 1 ask your insurance company for one and see what his answer is.The tragic result of very greedy people. Mr Wilson introduced them in the 70's and rather than scrap the indexed linked pensions they sell off all the public companies while having white paper drawn up to see wether there pensions are cost effective. Now that is what I call greed they would rather bankrupt the country than give up their indexed linked pensions. Another reason for the post office to run at a loss is the fact that you have to pay thirty one pence to have a first class letter delivered TNT business like this only pay thirteen pence but when they have bought the post office it is planned to raise the postal rate to eighty pence. let talk about junk mail , dont knock it, open it and see if the paper work inside has print on one side , if it has printing on one side only then use the plain side to write your notes, etc, and dont wast your clean paper, simple ! yes

We had a post office that was the envy of the world and instead of being allowed to reinvest in the future it was bled dry of all its profit by successive governments. When it stopped being profitable and needed reinvestment in order to compete government insisted it operated on a commercial basis and made a profit but at the same time insisted it provided a universal service to every address in the country at the same price. Somethimg its competitors where not forced to do. So much for so called equal competition!
Most post offices in other countries are suybsideised by government to provide a service to the people. All our politicians of all parties have done is ruin ours and given the profitable elements to private enterprise

I am getting to the stage I am afraid to order anything on the internet, as it is now about 50/50 whether it will be delivered at all via the so called Royal mail service, service? God, thats a laugh.

AH BUT WILL KEEP THE PRICE OF SENDING THINGS DOWN, AND THERE ARRIVAL MORE CERTAIN. OR MAKE THE POSTING OF THINGS MORE EFFICIENT WERE THEY NOW NOT ONLY HAVE TO WEIGHED BUT MEASURED AND GO THROUGH A CERTAIN SLOT ECT ECT. WILL THERE BE AN EASIER WAY OF OBTAINING A PROOF OF POSTAGE. THUS CREATING A BETTER SERVICE THEREFORE MORE BUSINESS. I THINK NOT. IT'S JUST A TEN YEAR PLAN BY THIS MOB OF CHEATS AND LIARS TO FURTHER RUN THE SERVICE DOWN BEFORE SELLING IT OFF TO THEIR RICH COHORTS IN CRIME AT A KNOCK DOWN PRICE.

fantastic we got a much improved cheaper service when GAS, ELECTRICTY, WATER and the RAILWAYS where privatised. DID WE? WHAT DO YOU THINK?
I live in crewe and my wife works for the post office so I have a little insight.
They closed the sorting office at Crewe that was directly linked and underneath Crewe station, and had the mail sorted and on its way VERY quickly that system had been the envy of the world for close to 150 years. Now its moved by HGV to warrington and the post is bloody awful.
but never mind ITS BETTER for who?

The Royal Mail is an excellent service provider as it stands. Certainly in comparison to other countries. Privatisation will ONLY bring higher prices and poorer / fewer services. Is there no way to stop this action that few people in the UK want to see happen?! A minority government, enabled by the sell out Lib Dems, is running riot with public services and voters have no say? It just does not seem right. The majority did not vote for these policies. Can someone name a few instances where privatisation (the so-called benefits we were meant to see from competition) improved customer service and decreased costs? My favourite is Telephone Enquiries, going from one three digit number that everyone knew with excellent service to a whole host of different service providers that cost more and have been shown to be 30 to 40% wrong with the numbers they give. It will the same for the Royal Mail. And those of you who live in rural areas look out! Too few homes to deliver mail to makes for a poor cost/benefit analysis.

Does this mean that some of the counter staff will now be English-speaking?

So a 10 year deal has been done...why ? So they can press ahead with yet another privatisation sooner rather than later. They'll be selling the land from beneath our feet next !
