Domino delivery boyFor Valentines Day did you get a candle-lit meal in a posh restaurant? Probably not if you live Wales or the West Midlands. You probably had a Domino Pizza delivered home because they were on a special two-for-one offer.

Domino's has told AOL Money that it had record sales on Valentines day, up 50% on last year, but up highest in Wales (60%) and the West Midlands (61%).

Who said romance was dead? Domino's says: "Customers across the country ordered in pizza to show their loved ones just how much they care." Hmmmn! It says: "Pizza lovers took advantage of Domino's Two for Tuesday promotion and had a cosy night in."

Lance Batchelor, chief executive of Domino's Pizza, said: "They do say that the way to man's heart is through his stomach and it seems to have been the case for women yesterday too.

"We're delighted to see so many people abandoning the hassle of cooking and washing up to order a pizza and enjoy a romantic night in. We're very pleased Two for Tuesday helped spread a bit of extra love this Valentine's Day."

This is a sign of the times. Both my wife and I were out at work yesterday finishing at 6pm and 7pm respectively. With an hour's journey home on top, I can see how attractive phoning for a takeaway might be.

Mind you, our Valentine meal was accompanied by our 16-year-old son playing gooseberry, so it wasn't exactly a classic romantic dinner for two either. Perhaps I'll order pizza next time.
