A sneak preview of one corner of the Sunday Times Rich List reveals that young women singers are topping the musical moneymaking chart - and the singer at the top spot raked in a stunning £14 million last year - despite being out of action for much of it.

So which young British stars feature, and where are young men making their money?

Musical money-makers

The top of the musical chart is taken by Adele. Given that she suffered a vocal hemorrhage that meant she had to pull out of two tours in the past year, you could be forgiven for thinking she's had a quiet year in money-making terms.

However, you don't have a chart-topping album and singles in the UK and US (and the best-selling album in the UK of all time) without making a few quid. The 23-year-old is now rolling in deep cash, having made £14 million last year. That brings her total fortune to an incredible £20 million.

She is now officially richer than Cheryl Cole, Katie Melua and Leona Lewis - who are still sitting on £12 million each - which isn't to be sniffed at. These star-studded women mean that now eight of the top ten earning young singers are women, including Joss Stone worth £10 million and Charlotte Church still worth £8 million.

In fact, it's only R 'n' B star Craig David and Scottish singer Paolo Nutini saving male face in joint 6th place and worth £8 million each.

Meanwhile, Lily Allen, despite having retired from music before the age of 30, still makes the top ten with a fortune of £6 million.

Acting millions

The list of top earning young British actors is dominated by the boys. Unsurprisingly the Harry Potter stars are still hanging on near the top of the list. They don't even have to show up at Hogwarts for their massive portfolios to keep working for them and making them richer by the day.

Daniel Radcliffe is still the country's richest young actor, and at the age of 22 is worth £54 million - up from £48 million last year. Emma Watson has added to her earnings by being the face of Burberry and is now worth £26. Rupert Grint also makes the list with £24 million.

However, only Radcliffe makes the top three. Behind him is Robert Pattinson, the Twilight actor, who is now worth £40 million - up from £32 million last year. Third is Keira Knightley (who also takes the top spot as the richest model), and fourth Kiera Chaplin with £28 million - proving that acting is indeed in the blood.

The rest of the Rich List will hit on 29 April.
