alan381 - Have you asked yourself why you were late in paying your tax. The vast majority of working people do not have the opportunity of delaying payment as we are on PAYE, even those people who earn mega bucks pay part of their tax on account during the tax year. I do however take your point about Vodaphone being let off. I just wish the same rules applied to me even though my income is below the national average.

HMRC spokesman (un-named) "We have always maintained that the settlements represented good value for the UK, by making sure that large businesses play by the rules in often complex international transactions." The large businesses have "not played by the rules" but have cheated and had to be dragged screaming and kicking to pay anything. Buying anything from these large companies the public should ask at purchase to with hold the VAT payment and say they will pay the tax for them. Or ask these companies to give the Tax back as it is obvious these companies did not pay the tax included in the purchase price.
WHAT ABOUT VODAFONE I HAVE A LITTLE COMPANY AND WAS OWING THE TAX £4,678 WAS LATE IN PAYING IT GOT A FINE £1,110 FROM THE TAX OK I CAN LIVE WITH THAT WHAT I CANT LIVE WITH WAS THE TAX LETTING VODAFONE OFF WITH £5.5 MILLION
