I agree with the comment below, they should scrap VAT on fuel, but it will have to be moved onto some other item as they it will leave a big gap in the government’s coffers and hospitals do not run on thin air.
I am on a diet at the moment so I think it should be moved onto food items with heavy calorie content.
The price for a barrel of oil is down to $80 a barrel...that normally translates to petrol being 79pence per liter.... errm why haven't the oil cartels / goverments dropped the pricing down by approximately 58 pence now?
June 16 2012 at 7:12 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplySmoke and mirrors. Direct peoples attention to the greedy fuel companies and be seen to take a tough stance. Small reductions in petrol prices follow and people hail the government as the motorists savior. 33 million potential votes in the bag. Meantime, the government continues to heavily tax fuel and gets away with it.
Assuming a price of 132.9 per litre for unleaded it breaks down thus:
The actual product price is 47.8p (oil companies, refineries etc)
Duty is 57.95p
VAT is 22.15p
And the retailer gets 5p
The government skims of 80.1p per litre
If Cameron wants to really help motorists and the transport industry he might perhaps consider scrapping VAT an fuel?
smoke and mirrors now there are 2 off us, come on the normal man in the street look we are being screwed , the people who are doing it to us dont pay (i.e.) top civil servants M.P.s and the like time to think about what we put into this country and what the scheming government gives us back ,,,, I wish I had emigrated

June 15 2012 at 6:35 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replymorrisons by far has reduced its petrol prices. it is at 128.9 p a litre.
June 15 2012 at 6:14 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyUK Diesel costs at least 4ppl more than Europe - What a load of rubbish. I filled up in Northern France last week at €1.30 per litre, that is a sterling equivalent of around £1.06ppl. Local Sainsbury's selling at £1.37 per litre - differential more like 30p per litre
June 15 2012 at 5:12 PM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate down ReplyTotally agree, we just came back from Holland and filled up for €1.34 per litre, thats a huge difference, probably about £1.09 a litre, so it is at least 25p a litre difference. Do these journalists not do their research??

They are talking about overall against Europe...not one country where you were on holiday
This is good news and bad news. The most expensive prices for fuel at the pumps is that of the BP chain. Avoid these like the plague.
June 15 2012 at 4:42 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyTexaco is the most expensive and always is by quite a lot per litre around my area goodness knows how they manage to survive
June 16 2012 at 12:07 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWe all know that aprox 80% of the retail fuel price is tax, but 80% of 80p is better than 80% of 1 pound 42p.
The increased tax revenue for the government would be astronomic, coupled with the printing of billions of pounds of fake money, where would Uk plc be without this extra money. The banks having traded badly and bankrupted themselves are now needing funding that is bankrupting the rest of us. Sort fractional reserve banking and the monetry system and we could see some light at the end of the tunnel.
labour flew the green flag and tried to tax us off the road for the good of the planet, this shower dont even pretend to be anything other than greedy. doesnt matter who you vote for, the government get in.
