Petrol price set to dip further: AA

The price of petrol at the pumps is continuing to fall and should dip even further soon, the AA has said.

Although diesel is also cheaper, it is still "stubbornly high" compared with the rest of Europe, the AA added.

Average petrol prices in the UK are now 132.65p a litre - almost 10p lower than the record 142.48p in mid-April.

The average price of diesel is 138.10p a litre compared with the peak figure of 147.93p.

The AA said a two-car family is spending £20.87 less on petrol a month than in mid-April while the cost of filling an 80-litre commercial van tank had fallen £7.86 in the past two months.

It added that falls in north-west Europe wholesale petrol prices "should bring pump prices down even further".

AA public affairs head Paul Watters said: "The fall in the fuel price, particularly petrol, has continued into June at a higher rate - in part due to pressure from the AA which demanded fuel forecourts fully reflect the significant falls in wholesale fuel prices.

"This was matched by the Transport Secretary (Justine Greening) urging greater price transparency."

He went on: "However, diesel prices in the UK remained stubbornly high this spring compared to other EU countries who reflected wholesale price parity between petrol and diesel fuel. It is this fuel that drives the cost of services and transporting goods - having a significant impact on inflation.

"The Chancellor's planned duty rise in August, which will increase pump price by around 3p, will increase the inflation rate and put more pressure on hard-pressed families and business in the UK once again."

I HEREBY CALL ON THE GOVERMENT HERE AND NOW TO AID THE AVERAGE FAMILIES BUDGET BY REDUCING ITS OUTGOINGS AND HELP THE ECONOMY TO RECOVER BY SCRAPPING THE PROPOSED 3p FUEL DUTY RISE SCHEDULED FOR AUGUST, AND INDEED TO REDUCE FUEL DUTY BY 3p TO GIVE ALL DRIVERS A WELL EARNED RESBITE FROM OVER INFLATED FUEL PRICES. CAMERON/OSBOURNE ARE YOU LISTENNING !!!........doubtful.

I too watch the BBC parliament channel, ( I find it more amusing that a repeat of a Morcambe and Wise Christmas Special ), and you are probably quite right .
I hear that the bars in the house of commons are subsidised.?( by guess who)
Does that mean that these Westinster MP`s , will not (as usual) suffer the `increase per unit of alcohol` that the rest of England will soon be subjected to.?
The co demolition party say they apply this, in regard for the health of the nation. Do they not care for the health of our ( hard working. Lol ( MP`s.?

Just watch it rise asgain after August and the planned 3p rise which will be 5p at the pumps.
With lower prices and it will give the government an an excuse not to implement the planned tax rise.

as these letters show it is the man in the street who can effectivley get this country back on its feet ,they all have very good ideas so why on earth cant the government do the same, well it is because they havnt had to think for themselves all their charmed lives and they do not have a clue about ordinary people so it is about time we all made a stand and demanded a general election before this country is on its knees altogether,The likes of cameron and clegg come from wealthy families and have no idea scrimping and saving is so do us all a favour and RESIGN

Is this really what the British poeple have come to? Petrol prices are lower than they have been for MONTHS and we still can't find anything possitive to say!
The AA are claiming victory for their campain when we all know it's the supermarkets that have done this! but we also know it ain't out of the goodness of teir hearts! it's just another way to get us into their shops n rip us off!
What a negative place this has become! I now remember why I left! don't remember why I came back? So gonna leave again!
