Pay benefit in food vouchers rather than money to be spent on fags, booze and drugs. Money given to hard up families to feed their children is more likely to go on huge tv screens, top end mobile phones, overseas holidays etc. We are so far along this road now that some parents can,t cook nutritious meals even if they wanted to. One of our local farmers dropped of a 56lb bag of spuds to a local multi child family on benefits as a kind gesture. Next day the mother phoned him up and asked him to come and pick them up because they were muddy! Hungry children are a sign of poor parenting in this country, not poverty. It is an insult to the many hard pressed parents who do put their children's welfare first.

July 05 2012 at 7:54 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyIf we follow the natural progression of this issue then we should really end up in Dickensian Britain; therefore the Conservatives can put kids back to work cleaning chimneys etc & re-open the Work House and call it Action for Employment. Its a shame that this article isn't surprising at all.

The lack of work and fear of losing the home means that cuts have to be made somewhere and going hungry is just one area that can be tolerated in order to save some money.
I'm sure Mr Cameron is in the same boat since were all in this together!
