Cleggy in cloud cuckoo land
September 07 2012 at 8:22 AM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate down ReplyWhat a load of twaddle.
I STRONGLY believe that the so called wealthy (those earning over 150k a year NOT A WEEK like footballers etc) are already paying their FAIR SHARE towards the wasteful spending of government.
How can it be FAIR for the Government to receive more from my earnings than I do ?
For every pound I get, the Government receives £65.30, when you include the NI contributions, and what do I get for it?
I am sick and tired of hearing about how unfair it is that the Rich don't pay their fair share towards the financial crisis that GOVERNMENT (not the workers) created.
People (mostly Political Hypocrits) constantly bang on that the wealthy are not doing their bit, not contributing their fair share, not feeling the pain...well there may be a FEW mega rich individuals out there such as Lord Sugar, Premier Footballers, Tennis Stars, Formula 1 drivers , a smattering of Wealthy Politicians and their like who dodge tax by creating Ltd Companies of which they are the sole assett and earner, or creatively BORROW money from Jersey adn somehow avoid paying tax on what is actually their earnings....BUT MOST normal PEOPLE pay PAYE, that is TAX AND NI at source direct from their income before they get paid.
There are as many, if not more, who are supposedly POOR, living on benefits, but also work for cash, IF they either PAID their tax due OR stopped getting benefit they would HELP the economy.
I accept this is not a PC statement, but it is about time POLITICIANS stopped castigating those who are paying MORE than their FAIR SHARE and acknowledged that people who pay in excess of 50% of their income are beneficial to the Country and should be thanked, NOT FOREVER branded as greedy F.....rs.
Nick Clegg, and his mate the business secretary are MEGA wealthy compared to me and the vast majority of the population of the UK, but they DO NOT PAY THEIR FAIR SHARE or take the same hits as the working population, THEY and most MP's are insulated from the reality of life OUTSIDE Parliament.
WE do not get TAX FREE benefits. We do not get (what appears to be) unlimited allowances for travel to and from our place of work, or living allowances to rent a flat or hotel or buy a house(Tax free)
We do not get put at the TOP of the queue IF we are unfortunate enough to need NHS treatment.
How can Cable claim his Heating Allowance when he believes it is wrong for other wealthy people to get benefit such as Child Benefit?
STOP THE WASTE IN GOVERNMENT.
ROOT OUT THOSE WHO CHEAT THE SYSTEM, that means a SMALL number of self assessment CHEATS and a large number of Benefit cheats.
Stop lying about so called CUTS in spending when spending has INCREASED and Government DEBT has increased.
Stop appologising for the mess we are in courtesy of the wasteful spending of Laboue, AND DO SOMETHING to get us out of the mess the UK is in.
CUT taxation, both direct and indirect.
Reduce NI.
Reduce VAT.
Reduce PAYE .No TAX payable on earnings below 20k.
30% on the next 200k
40% on the rest.
Sorry folks.
For every pound I receive the Government receives 1pound 36 p.
My reference above was calculated IF I earned a pound, the Government takes 63.5p and I get 47p
Tax is 50%, NI contribution is 3% on earnings in excess of the ceiling.
When I earn at the 40% rate I still receive less than the government as after NI is taken out I am paying in excess of 50% in tax and NI, and I DO NOT GET ANY THRESHOLD ALLOWANCE as I am a 50% tax payer.
It is FUNDAMENTALLY UNFAIR to remove the tax threshold and CB from someone who earns money and pays tax, I think the system is UNFAIR and that any honest taxpayer receives a poor deal from the Government.
The more ANY taxpayer keeps to spend, the better off the Country will be, as MOST people spend what they have which creates jobs and wealth in other sections of society, those jobs create GREATER tax and NI for the Government, and SPENDING gives the Government %20 Tax that it is difficult to avoid, Unless you pay cash to the builder/decorator, who are probably claiming benefits anyway!!!
Why is it when the Government runs out of money they raise taxes. Why do they never cut their expenditure like the rest of us have to do?
August 29 2012 at 12:40 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWhy???
Because we all the remaining 99% of the British Public do NOTHING to stop them.
No Nick your dreaming like all liberals. Wether its 50p or 45 when you add up all the other taxes the rich pay a fair wack. What we need is to get out of this pathetic human rights legislation so as to stop the world cheats, liars and crooks turning up on our doorstep and gaining entry. How about that Nick? Just give the people what they want!"!!
August 29 2012 at 10:29 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyDear Nick, aren't you the guy that that supported Osborne when he cut the tax rate by 50p for all his rich friends? Aren't you the guy that has supported and colluded with this extreme right wing, unelected government from day one? And aren't you the guy that said that he done all this to save our economy? Well sunshine you haven't saved the economy, you haven't saved zilch, in fact you've made it worse. So tell me this, why are you still propping up this bunch of bank loving incompetents?
August 29 2012 at 8:49 AM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate down ReplyFirst, you formed a coalition with the wrong party tp even think of getting this through. Second, I am fed up with the rhetoric from all of you - stop talking and start walking. A good start would be for one of you to scrap the UK link with the European Convention on Human Rights [and remove the HRA from the staute books], but that won't be you, will it Cleggie boy, you hoodie hugging, gaylove supporting Liberal softie ?.

August 29 2012 at 5:44 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThe facts
quote
1. The richest 1% pay 26.7% of all income tax.
2. The richest 10% pay 53.3% of all income tax.
3. The poorest 50% pay 11% of all income tax.
4. The poorest 10% pay 0.5% of all income tax.
5. The budget deficit is currently on track to be £126bn this year,
6. The increase in top rate from 40-50% was estimated to raise £2.7bn if nobody avoided it, and the HMRC estimate published at the time of the last budget was that it raised less than £1bn. Let's assume the truth is £2bn. So the reduction in top rate from 50 to 45% cost the Treasury £1bn (or 0.8% of the deficit).
7. A 45% top rate may (evidence will not be in for some time) result in less tax avoidance at the top end.
8. A 45% rate is a more attractive rate than the 75% rate being introduced by Hollande in France. There is some (albeit still currently anectdotal) evidence that many wealthy businesses and individuals are preparing to relocate to London as a result and pay their taxes to HM Treasury. Raising the top rate will make us less attractive.
Some of your quoted FACTS look very much likethe opinions of someone who is clearly not impartial the clue is in words like "may" and "anecdotal".
August 29 2012 at 7:23 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replyparkmont13 - in the last 2 years more and more of our clients are moving their money ( and their companies ) out of the UK due to tax levels here both personal and business .
The Government have lost the equivalent of the cost of the NHS in lost tax revenues in the last 15 years, over 700 UK companies have re- located abroad, inward investment in the UK is at a 20 year low, one of the UK's largest companies say they will concentrate all future investment overseas - screwing the rich does not make the poor beter off , it just makes they poorer as Government Tax Revenues fall .
Jusrt rember money has no politics, it goes where it can get the best post tax return - that is no longer the UK by a large margin.
Now if this Government ( or any Government ) were to say to the rich - "Invest in UK manufacturing and we guarantee all the profits you make on that investment will be taxed at a tital maximum of 10% for the next 25 years " then many thousands of new businesses and jobs would be created , employees paying tax, benefits saved, VAT paid, more jobs in the supply chain etc .
But this lot are not bright enough to do this and Labour is an anti business party at heart - UK manufacturing halved during their last 10 years in Government - so the UK wil continue to decline and the rich will continue to move their money off shore at an even faster rate - in the future we will have greater equality of wealth and income - we will all be equally poor - the politics of envy are the road to national poverty
Yet another idea not thought through. The rich would merely up-sticks and take their wealth and businesses abroad with them, also they can employ specialist accountants to minimise their tax bill and they often provide many jobs through their companies - think of the Dragons Den panel for example. If people like them leave the UK they'd take their businesses and jobs with them, there are many countries who would welcome them with open arms, and incentives!
