In history there has NEVER been a recession resolved by the private sector - it has Always been necessary to boost public spending in order to restart the economy. Reliance on private sector action to kick some life into the economy is stupidity of the highest order.

Even If we put more money in peoples pockets, all that would do is suck in more imports. We need to spend on infrastructure but it must be spent via Uk firms and Uk materials but of course that would go against European trade rules.

There is no shortage of capital for investment - most of it is being invested overseas where the post tax returns are much higher .
We will not go back to pre 2008 economic growth for many years, if at all.... It was built on easy bank loans, easy credit and plenty of it!... That wont be seen again any time soon. We need government to reduce its size and out of control spending, reduce national debt and end rabid over taxation, and stop stealing savers money via legalized theft with monetary policies such as QE. Then we need higher wages to accompany all of that.... Use common sense, You dont need a degree to see the answer.

September 07 2012 at 3:26 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replywell its easy for the scottish government to call for extra spending because it expects the english to come up with the money
The scottish multi millioners children get a free university education while a nurses kids in england have to pay the lot plus interest thats Scottish economics
You are a very racist individual. I worked in Scotland for some time and believe it or not- Scottish workers pay tax too and by the way to UK Government, not Scottish Government.

Gives everyone more disposable income to start spending thus getting the economy moving again without the need for borrowing. My household alone would be almost £250 a month better off if fuel duty was cut. Then raise the tax threshold to £15,000 and allow married couples to claim each others tax allowance if one stays at home to look after the kids and to make up for the gap in the governments accounts they could freeze all foreign aid and close the loopholes that allow the mega rich to avoid paying their due taxes:) I should be chancellor...
