Ford logoThe average British family owns two cars, of which one is a blue Ford, spends £81.92 a week on food shopping and has a household income of £39,000, new research shows.

The findings of the study also reveal that a typical family has two children, watches five hours of TV a day and owns an incredible three mobile phones and three laptops.

Mr and Mrs Average spend about three hours of quality time with family members per day and go to bed at 10.23pm, according to the survey, which was commissioned to mark the launch of hit American sitcom Modern Family Season 3 on Blu-ray and DVD.

Their kids, on the other hand, are tucked up at 8.10pm, while the alarm generally goes off at 6.45am during the week and 7.44am on the weekends.

A spokesman for the research team said: "Everyone considers their home life to be normal, so it's fascinating to find out exactly what 'normal' is for modern families of the 21st Century."

Eating habits were one of the other elements of family life studied by the researchers. As well as discovering that the average family's food shopping bill is £81.92 a week, they found that a typical household orders two takeaways a month - usually on Saturdays - and eats five meals together in a typical week.

Families do not just get together at meal times, though. The typical family also plays sport of some kind together twice a month, as well as making two trips to see extended family and friends and enjoying one day trip, two family walks and one family bike ride.

"It's good to see that families still enjoy plenty of time together, whether that's quality time at home, day trips or simply eating together for the majority of their evening meals," the spokesman added.
