October 31 2012 at 9:50 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThis is all very well, but we're told there is no money! Small businesses are the supposed life blood of the economy in this country and it is these firms that need direct funding which would enable them to grow and create more jobs, in all regions of the UK. But this funding shouldn't come from government, but from the banks who have an obligation, particularly those that are largely state owned, to lend! This is where government should be exerting more pressure, not blindly throwing away more taxpayers cash on what will probably be another lost cause.

Entrepreneurs provide venture capital in return for shareholdings - certainly State owned banks should not be risking taxpayers money by providing RISK CAAPITAL - - only working capital
Things must be really getting bad in government if this old dinosaur rises from his grave.

October 31 2012 at 5:40 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Reply228 pages took sometime to produce and wasn't free. Implication is that it was done because Vince Cable has failed in his job. For it to be welcomed by unions and EEF is helpful of course, but local government and quangos appear to be the vehicles to get this money spent. They will take their cut and waste time.
Surely far better NOT to have taxed us in the first place.
Mr H should be Chancellor and get our taxes down. That's a far better way of stimulating economic growth.
Governments do too little, too late and are useless at doing anything dynamic.

£250,000 is a pathetic drop in the ocean.
The navy just tested a trident missile, that wasted several times that.
The country needs more money spent by government to start the economy moving.
British governments should wake up and stop trying to play 'big boys.' Britain cant use trident missiles, unless it goes cap in hand to the Americans for their permission, and judging by past performance that wouldn't be forthcoming, so any amount spent on them is just money poured down the drain.
If the same amount that has been spent on trident had been spent on updating Britains appallingly deficient road system, it would have been better spent by far. Compared to the billions poured into the pockets of the bankers, which was totally wasted, £250k is petty cash.
