December 18 2012 at 1:14 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyPatrica Faulkner - because legally all Europeans can come here - and we can go there - and the vast bulk of people coming here in the last 10 years are from the EU - Poles , Irish, Spanish, Portuguese etc
As long as we are in the EU no UK Government can limit European immigration - if you voted Tory Lib Dem or Labour in the last 40 years you voted for it .
we had 30 brand new houses built next to us, the lack of English talking people who have moved into these houses is staggering, the locals are up in arms about this and the goverment wonder why racially aggravated crime is on the rise

December 18 2012 at 10:48 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyInteresting that this story remains on AOL but the article about the Barclay brothers and The Ritz has predictably disappeared rather quickly. Lawyers' threats?
December 18 2012 at 10:01 AM Report abuse Permalink +3 rate up rate down Replypricj8 - Why would there be lawyers threats - it was simply a report on the tax status of the Ritz Hotel and their reclaiming vAT on another business they owned - the Barclay Brothers are not UK residents - they and their business empire are based in Sark .
Either they are entitled to a VAT refund or they are not - the Court will decide
I agree with you pricj8. These two brothers think they are the Mafia. I will never shop at littlewoods ever again.
December 18 2012 at 10:38 AM Report abuse Permalink +2 rate up rate down ReplyIf there were fair paying jobs for decent people who want to work were available, the majority of people would live in decent affordable housing. Off benefits and not lining the pockets of criminal landlords living of the backs of the vunreble. Building a better Britain. For a better Britain. For a better future.
December 18 2012 at 9:59 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThe whole essence of this problem is that we have too many people on our small island !
There surely MUST come a point when we have to say no to more immigration.
We cannot house or provide work for the vast number of people who inhabit this Country at the present time and it's only going to get worse.
Can our successive governments not see this ?
Those in government must wear massive blinkers if they are unaware of the desperate situation that is befalling this once great Country of ours.
ebell411 - Labour at heart believe in unlimited immigration - they were the party of mass immigration from the Commonwealrth just after the Second World war - even their current leader D Milliband is the son of an illegal 1940's immigrant from Poland via Belgium .
The Lib Dems are not in principle in favour of limiting immigration .
The Tories believe on principle in limits but cannnot legally do much in practice to stop immigration - so short of a UKIP victory in 2015 immigration is going to continue - and with the restrictions on Bulgaria and Romania ending next year and Turkey and Croatia joining the EU in the near future immigation can only grow short of a total UKIP victory
Thanks for your reply - I agree with your comments and find the situation very depressing.
We are no longer masters of out own destiny it would seem and I am not 100% sure that UKIP is the complete answer.
I do believe that there should be some sort of ' shake up' in British politics as the major parties have continued to ignore completely the needs of the British public.
ebell411 - I think that if UKIP do well in the election the Tories will swing against the EU - there are already a large number of anti EU Tories ( circa 60 MP's )
Labour are pretty well rock solid pro EU Membership - there only consistent anti EU Member is Gizela Stuart ( and she is German born and thinks its simply a German racket to become masters of Europe - a change of tactics not of strategy !!!!)
As long as we are subservient to the EU we can't limit inmmigration- that is the legal reality - what the public thinks is neither here nor there - short of a massive shake up which only UKIP can spark off
Past and present governments are to BLAME . Why the hell mass immigration was allowed through are borders in large numbers is beyond me. But this will cost them at the election . I reckon the next election is going to shock all three main party`s .
December 18 2012 at 9:54 AM Report abuse Permalink +2 rate up rate down ReplyI reckon it will shock them but, sadly, the damage is done and back-tracking is going to be not only difficult but almost impossible.
December 18 2012 at 10:30 AM Report abuse Permalink +2 rate up rate down ReplyYour right ebell411 the damage they have done to this country is irreversible but the way we vote remains the same.
December 18 2012 at 10:50 AM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate downProblem was that under the last Labour Government we had the lowest rate of house building in any decade since the 1920's - throughout thee 1950's, 1960's 1970's etc we had hundreds of thousands of homes being built each year
December 18 2012 at 8:04 AM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate down ReplySo true ronnieince, but at the end of the day simply building more and more housing is not the answer - we cannot, as a small Country support in infinite number of residents.
Look at the problems with water shortages in the South in the Summer months as there are too many people in too many houses making too many demands on vital services like water supply.
Our current housing crisis has much to do with the right to buy, which i believe to be a great idea, the problem is the councils never received the vast majority of the money and no houses were built from the proceeds of the sale of these homes, and so the social housing market shrunk as the stock was sold off and never replaced.
Tories and Labour both knew full well this would happen, but they ignored it hoping it would never be their problem.
andrew cartright - the right to buy has had no effect on the national stock of homes - who owns a house is irrelevant - if there is not a house available you can't house a family - whether or not the family rent or own it does not produce more or les accomodation .
If we had kept building at the rate we were in the 1930's 50's , 60's 70's 80's we would not have a shortage . And if the Government really wanted to it could build 7 milion homes in 10 years - proportionately that is what the Irish Republic did .
there is property everywhere empty a lot owned by goverments and councils, the problem is LONDON in the last four years 600,000 people have come to settle in london i would guess only 5% are british born thats the start of the problem because a large majority of these will be claiming to be housed, they are non british passport holders and never paid a penny into our system they will claim benefits, housing, and of course free health care which us tax payers have paid for. There will purpose bulith families of 4,5, 6 children because its gets you a bigger house and bigger benefits, For some mad reason we have never had a immigration cap the 13,000 polish ended up 500,000 a mass influx of asian somalian africian south american and other eastern european states, and soon another landslide from romania and bulgaria, now all these people are entilted to benefits housing and health care. We cannot afford this we have our own homeless many who refuse work because benefits are better, if you doubt this walk into any service industry in london and listed for a english voice. all goverments are to blame but LABOUR more so with there mad open door policy that cannot be reversed so this FOOL LABOUR MP should look to his goverments decisions, The liberals should look at there anything go"s policys and the torys should smell the coffee BECAUSE AS A COUNTRY WE ARE SKINT BECAUSE OF THERE LACK OF CARE FOR THE BRITISH TAXPAYER, SPECIALLY THE PENSIONER. One day a party will come along and put BRITISH BORN SUBJECTS FIRST. And all of those who don"t vote for it or have voted for labour liberal or tory don"t come on here and complain because its what you voted for. And that party is not BNP because they are clueless
December 18 2012 at 7:48 AM Report abuse Permalink +5 rate up rate down ReplyThere are tens of thousands of immigrants waiting to be housed in Newham in East London. The number is forever increasing because of pregnancies, chain immigration and the EU. I have watched with sadness as my country disappears. This is not because I am rascist. I am disgusted by racism. I want a peaceful, multi-racial society with shared values. However, I can no longer choose the values and culture that my children are brought up in. Newham is the gateway to the new multi-cultural Britain, sharia law, halal and 90+ languages. Rather than these changes being negotiated [because most cultures change and develop] these have been imposed and not chosen. If you want to know what England will look like in 15 years, come to Newham. As for housing, the more you build, the more will need them.
December 18 2012 at 10:12 AM Report abuse Permalink +2 rate up rate down ReplyFor the life of me, I really don't understand as to why we have to house and keep every immigrant under the sun who arrives here. Would any of us automatically get everything handed on a plate if we turned up in another country? It's not the problem of the British taxpayer if immigrants can't look after themselves here as there's an exit door open to them. We should be looking after our own first and foremost, ie. those that work and pay tax, and those that are sick and vulnerable.
Working people are fed up with keeping freeloaders especially when they themselves are getting hit hard by this govt.
Totally agree with you, Most of us would not just turn up in another Country with no means of support and expect to be provided for - in fact it simply wouldn't happen.
