i do want to release the scotch from the shackles of england, it,s aboot time the child grew up.i wish them the best,i also wish them luck with taking their own people back home, why?well i for one want no part of scotland, they can have it,along with all the good and bad people they have produced, thats right, you can all go home and i mean all of you,no i don,t care how long you have lived here,so watch this ,if as a scot you have the vote ,i suggest you kick it into touch along with that barmy twit who runs the show up there, these ridiculous ideas made up by a complete waste of brains named quite aptly after a fish

January 24 2013 at 6:37 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThe Scots are practically independent now, but with perks. I have two grandchildren at university. When they finally get jobs at the end of it, they will be saddled with a total debt of £18,000. If they were Scottish, they would have to pay nothing.
January 09 2013 at 6:25 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replybellsheil - Yes but the downside is they would have to live in Scotland to get the free university deal - their real problem is being English or Welsh or Northern Irish .
EU Students from outside the UK get the same free deal at Scottish universities. - educated Scots take the road south to England ( Brown ,Blair , Darling, Charles Kennedy are examples ) or elsewhere in the world - a leading SNP supporter is Sean Connory - but he certainly doesn't chose to live in Scotland - so many Scots are in business in the Far East and Hong Kong they are jokingly called locally the " MacMafia " !
Even the Bank of England was founded by a Scot ( later jailed for fraud - Brown and Blair got away with it !!!)
What a load of absolute crap. England is forgetting the millions of £s they get every year from the export of Whisky. If Scotland does get Independence, that money automatically goes into Scottish coffers - not the bottomless pit that everyone in the UK has been robbed to fill every year.
January 09 2013 at 4:58 PM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate down Replyteemaxtwo - If you look at who owns the Scotch whisky companies the vast majority are owned OUTSIDE of Scotland - Segrams are huge , they are Canadian, Diegeo are not Scottish - so the profits of the whisky producers accrue outside Scotland - same with oil which belongs to the multi national oil companies - the is a British Petroleum and a Royal Dutch Shell - but no Salmond Oil or Scottish Petroleum - so not a lot is going to go into Scottish coffers .
And alcohol duty tax is paid where the whisky is drunk - 95% is consumed outside Scotland - even the Scots could not drink it all locally although I'm sure if asked they would be willing to try !!
i'm guessing you're against independence then, do you have the right to vote on it or are you just shooting your mouth off (litterally)? Enough of the racial stereotyping, showing your true colours!!!
January 09 2013 at 8:40 PM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate downAye weel said teemaxtwo and that bottomless pit is called the TROUGH, it's a fantastic thing for all them MP'S to dip their snouts in, IN A DAILY BASIS!!!!!!!
January 24 2013 at 6:41 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyMy gut feeling is simple, its Alex Salmons dream..Just to go down in history..
If Scotland wants its independance it has to take ALL its risks.. ( not just the Oil )
Banks Libility
Post office - resources to the remote places, and other public centrally covered services. etc
Don't worry about Scotland becoming independent, they'll never do it. In fifty years time they'll still be talking about independence...and they'll still be in the U.K
January 09 2013 at 2:37 PM Report abuse Permalink -1 rate up rate down Replyalways one smart a*** whothinks he knows what he,s talking about is there ronn, well lets be having you ,we can make it on our own "nae bother"all we need is the layabout glaswegians to pull their weight and" awa we go" mind you they can always find the reddies for the fitba or a bevy." so there must be some smart thinkers in there, SCOTS WHA HEY.
January 09 2013 at 11:56 AM Report abuse Permalink +4 rate up rate down Replyrrcarroll17 - nobody is saying that an independent Scotland isn't possible - simply that it will be a lot poorer unless it can either find a lot more oil or attract a lot more companies - manufacturing used to be a major employer in Scotland ( ship building, locomotives, steel, cars , heavy engineering etc ) but most of it has long gone
January 09 2013 at 1:22 PM Report abuse Permalink -4 rate up rate down ReplyHMMMMMM JUST THE SAME as England EH!!!!!
January 24 2013 at 6:45 PM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate downRoll on Independence, am sick of the Nasty Tory Scum! good old Alex, am wae ye son.
freeeeeeeeedooooommmmmm!!!!!!
allantempleton- I have to tell you in England they are not wildly keen on Scots like Blair, Brown , Kennedy etc - Please keep Alec and take the other back as well !!!
January 09 2013 at 3:57 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate downI'm WITH YE TAE ALEX, GID OAN YE SON!!!!!
January 24 2013 at 6:46 PM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate downI suppose if Scotland goes, then Wales will eventually follow; leaving England to fork out for Ulster.
Might as well hand that over to eire seeing as how they are on a different island.
Eire does not want it and it would result in a civil war and oceans of blood spilt over the whole island
January 09 2013 at 1:23 PM Report abuse Permalink -2 rate up rate down ReplyIt would be a loss to Scotland (no matter what those people say who spout FREEDOM would have you believe) AND a loss to England, they are short sighted and naive..and typically politicians to their bones
January 09 2013 at 8:10 AM Report abuse Permalink -3 rate up rate down Replyteabags - If the people of Scotland choose to leave the UK that is their choice but the nearest example they have is the Republic of Ireland - they were poorer in real terms in 1972 after 50 years of independence - then they joined the EU who threw BILIONS of other peoples money at them and they spent it irresponsibly and now owe BILLIONS - hardly reassuring to the potential independent Scots .
But Scottish oil output , which accounts for 20% of Scotlands's GDP is falling rapidly , no major ne discoveries habvev been made and daily output is now a qyuarter of the peak daily output and declining at 7% a year - it may be a short lived independence if it even happens .
And Orkney ad Shetland still technically belong to Norway , simply administered by Scotland since 1472 - Mr Salmond does not appear to be well read in the history of Scotland in this regard when he talks of " Scottish oil " - most of it is " Shetland oil "
