Its terrible that some kids don't get the latest Nike trainers at £120 a pair. That is deprivation alright!

Being of a certain age, I have a clear memory of a time when kids had those magical things called "parents" and a "home." Whatever happened to them? Did they suddenly become unfashionable?
The plea is always for the government to spend more which means borrowing more. We are currently having to find around a billion quid each and every week just to pay the interest on the loans. Without austerity, government borrowing will increase even more than it already is and bankruptcy gets closer by the day. In fact, we haven't had austerity yet; just a lot of talk about it. The government needs to urgently get real about it.
So do the people who always want more more more for less less less. Governmenmts do not have money unless tax payers provide it..
February 08 2013 at 6:11 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyAnd there is a lot of people out there who actually believe this is not happening. What really gets me is that the coalition keep banging on about how the last government left this country financially ruined and that Billions of pounds of cuts where needed and thousands lost their jobs and homes and still more austerity cuts are needed to tackle this deficit . They also reckon that inflation is going to be high for the next two years which means millions more family`s will be falling into the poverty trap `But MPs are getting a twenty thousand pound pay rise each year as they are struggling with the amount of money they are getting . Parliament are cracking open bottles of wine at £1000 a time and a Labour MP peers want to silence the press from free speech so story`s like this are not allowed to be published . Christ sake British people wake up and stop this madness. They are voted in to run and govern the country not help themselves and govern themselves with their set of rules.

I grew up in an era when most children were material deprived, we had clothing coupons and food andd fuel rationed.
TVs were unknown and the highlight of the day was Dick Barton special agent on the Radio. but we provided for ourselves, We still had a happy and fulfilling lives. We were well educated. were better disciplined and most tof us have moved on to a better life.
Expectations today have been raised too high, and materil things are not the most important things in life.
Well said troglodytes1 - it isn't 'materially deprived' that's the problem, it's maternally and paternally deprived - too many parents out working all hours to either make ends meet (which I can understand to a point) or to keep up a certain lifestyle regardless of the impact on their childrens' mental health. I see children being picked up from the nursery near our own house at 6pm having been there all day from first thing (I see them being dropped off at 8am), five days a week. How can that possibly be right? 50 hours a week for some toddlers. That was 'backed up' by a news report (I think it was on BBC) about the costs of childcare and child to staff ratio being debated at the moment. So this cannot be just our local nursery. We are all letting our children down badly and it will backfire I have no doubt about it...
