AOL portfolio tool update – 14/11/08

Since the launch of the new portfolio tool that forms part of AOL Money, we have experienced bugs and problems in terms of user functionality and experience.

We appreciate the comments that users have given us via the comments board and would like to assure you that we are giving these concerns our utmost priority.

We would also ask for your patience as we address all the valid issues that have been raised. We now have some answers to the questions we have received and have updated the FAQs which you can read below. We will be adding to these in due course.

If portfolio holders encounter further difficulties when using the portfolio, we would be grateful if you could provide us with further details. Please email the nature of the problem providing as much as information as possible, for example what browser you are using, screen grabs of incorrect pages, to: portfolioteam@aol.co.uk

The old portfolio tool can still be viewed by clicking here

Why have the above difficulties arisen ?...AOL does not seem to answer the question. This enormously useful AOL facility surely depends on the integration of stockmarket data with that provvided by the user. It then needs only simple arithmetic and layout of the results. This should not be all that difficult for a computer programmer. Why oh why do we faithful AOL users have to suffer and why have we had to do so for so long?

To delete a portfolio or rename it, just click on the "settings" tab on the left hand pane. Then, on the right you'll see the options to "delete" or "rename" next to each of your portfolios.

If you're having problems with the new Portfolio tool, just use the old one. You can still find it here: http://finance.aol.com/ukw/portfolios/myportfolios

The currency rate does not make sense. It is impossible to alter a share holding. For no reason the decimal point is moved two places in the value columns of some shares giveing a toal 100times too great. There is no facility for cash. It is an absolute disaster. Please please please can we have the old system back. This was reliable easy to read, updateable. Why did you want to change it for. You have not given us a valid reason for the chang. I have been with you over ten years now and I am considering leaving you unless you can give me the old system back

Where has the trusted 'Old System' gone? The screen tells me it is unable to show my financial and to try again later. That has been for the last couple of days. When are we to get the system back on line?

Portfolio is clearly a product you have no interest in sorting out .. it behaves inconsistently when searching for symbols, regularly picks up erroneous share price feeds, is cumbersome and intensely irritating. It only serves to annoy your customers. have you any commitment to soring it out.. the last post from you was in Nov 2008 which rather suggests you just do not care and ignore your users.

My portfolio seems to have disappeared today (18.09.2009). Prior to this I contacted aol technical services who could not help with the fact that although my portfolio showed the correct entry price, fees, quantity of shares bought and date bought, the other two columns which showed movement and current price was completely wrong e.g. showing a total investment of £200 on one share had increased to a total of £33,000. Would be pleased if somebody in the know could correct the portfolio format etc.
