Allowances for some asylum seekers are to be cut

Allowances for some asylum seekers are to be cut as part of a bid by the Government to slash costs in the face of the recession.

Single people aged over 25 arriving in the UK to seek refuge will receive £35.15 per week in subsistence payments instead of the present £42.16 from this autumn.

The UK Border Agency said a review had established that the payments had been overly generous in the past as accommodation and utility charges were met by the state.

A spokesman said: "In view of the difficult economic climate, support rates were reviewed this year to ensure that essential living needs of asylum seekers could be met within budgetary constraints.

"Historically, support for asylum seekers has been linked to Income Support rates. Income Support rates are higher for those over 25 and lone parents because they are more likely to be living independently.

"This does not apply to asylum seekers, who typically live in UK Border Agency accommodation and so have no housing costs, or water, gas or electricity bills."

Lone parent families would not end up worse off, the spokesman insisted, with the amount of money going to asylum-seeking children going up by 5.2%.

This countrys governments have successfully bled me dry with direct and indirect taxation that I have spent a lifetime paying. Now I have a terminal illness, I struggle to get by on benefits and pay my electricity, gas and water bills. Damn, I will have to find out how to change my nationality and claim asylum in this screwed up country where those who contribute the least get to take out the most.

This is disgusting to think that Asylum Seekers get a penny from the state. I am shocked as I was completely unaware of this. I am a home owner with my wife and through no fault of my own been unemloyed for over 6 months. I have found out that if you have a mortgage and if your partner works and earns over £5,000 a year I will now lose my £60.00 a week Job Seekers allowance and will get no help. I have worked for over 25 years and paid over and above my taxes at this time I end up with nothing in my time of need and asylum seekers get money. If your briitish and home owner you get treated as a second class citizen in you own country it's just disgusting. Most of these asylum seekers are from Iraq or Afgahanasthan where our brave service man are laying down there lives to create a better country for them. They should be sent back immediatly and not allowed one foot in our country and they should go back and help our brave troops make their country a better place.

WHY DO US THE TAXPAYER HAVE TO PAY FOR ALL THIS.

WHY ARE WE PAYING THESE COSTS TO ASYLUM SEEKERS.WE MUST BE THE ONLY COUNTRY IN THE WORLD DOING THIS. IN OTHER COUNTRIES YOU HAVE TO PUT IN TO GET OUT.ANOTHER REASON WHY THIS COUNTRY IS GOING TO THE DOGS.
