RBS's Wimbledon suite revealed
The whereabouts of the Royal Bank of Scotland's Wimbledon hospitality suite have been revealed, after the bank apparently tried to hide it from public view.
Bailed-out RBS, which is now more than 70% owned by the taxpayer, is reportedly spending £300,000 on corporate entertaining at the tournament.
Other suites, such as those for IBM and Evian, are clearly signposted, the sign for Level 3 Suite H in the Court No1 building where the RBS suite is now known to be located has been left blank.
The bank has refused to divulge the location of the suite while security guards are blocking the way for anyone without a pass.
Invited guests have been enjoying fine dining and champagne as they watch the tennis championships, while ordinary spectators have to pay £6.30 for fish and chips and £3.50 for a slice of pizza or hot dog.
RBS reported record UK losses in 2008 and tens of thousands of staff have lost their jobs.
According to the Mail on Sunday, the RBS corporate hospitality package for SW19 is costing up to £300,000.
A spokesman for RBS was unable to confirm the costs and would not comment on the secretive location of the suite.
He said: "We made a contractual commitment to hospitality packages at Wimbledon three years ago. We did think hard about this in the light of our position as we cut our hospitality across the board by 90% this year. However, in this case not to use it would have been a waste of committed resources so we went ahead with inviting customers and charity partners.
"No one should be in any doubt that everyone at RBS recognises the need to get our house in order."
